Beauty Products by beautyandserendipity on Polyvore

Top Row: EOS Lip Balm Set, Johnson & Johnson No More Tangles Detangler.
Bottom Row:  Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser - Sensitive Formula, Boots Expert Sensitive Gentle Smoothing Scrub and Boots Expert Sensitive Gentle Cleansing Wash.

I'm trying a new skincare regimen, based on Paula Begoun's Cosmetics Cops Team on the www.beautypedia.com website.  The Body Shop's skincare regimen, that I had been using since 2007, stopped working, and the Cetaphil was leaving my skin too dry and I was getting signs of irritation.  A woman needs different products as she ages, because skin concerns change over time.  So I decided it was high time to make a switch.

The Johnson & Johnson No More Tangles Detangler is a constant.  I've been using it since I was a teenager, I think, for those times when I've had long hair.  Works great, doesn't leave residue or irritation in its wake.

Recycle Your Denim at J. Crew

A sure sign that spring is on its way in the Northern Hemisphere comes in the form of recycling events.

Get ready to clean out your closets and divest yourselves of your old, worn out jeans!

J. Crew has its Blue Jeans Go Green recycling event at its stores, and also at NASCAR events.  You can even download a printable mailing label and mail in your denim!  The denim collected at NASCAR events and through the mail is used for insulation to help people stay cool in the heat, and to keep warm in the cold.  Truly a versatile fabric, right?

Blue jeans recycled in-store can get you 15% off your entire purchase when you buy a new pair of blue jeans.

Check it out, and find more information here:

I'll be updating with more information about recycling events coming in the NYC area, brought to you by the New York City Council on the Environment and the New York City Department of Sanitation (let's give a shout out to New York's Strongest, who have been kept busy moving snow and salting streets all winter long!)

Be safe out there, while there's still ice and snow on the ground!

Activewear and Workout Gear

Workout Gear
Top Row:  Reebok Printed PlayDry Tee in Strong Blue, Reebok Side-Tie Tunic in Rose Red, Lane Bryant TruDry Jacket in Pink, Reebok Side-Tie Tunic in Black.
Bottom Row: LL Bean Cropped Activewear Pants, LL Bean Bootcut Activewear Pants, Lane Bryant TruDry Bootcut Workout Pants.  Adidas Gym Bag, New Balance Running Shoes.

Yes, I'm doing it again.  I bought three more activewear tops.  They're from Reebok, the PlayDry line, and they feel great, look great and fit beautifully.  The LL Bean Pants and Lane Bryant Pants are previous purchases.  The Reebok purchase was hard to resist:  Lane Bryant was running a 60% off activewear sale.  I needed tops, and I hadn't seen these before, so ... yeah.  I bought them.

I got clearance from my doctor ... now all I have to do is get me some sports bras, some good sneakers, and get to the gym!  I can get through all that snow and ice, right?  I'm Norwegian, dagnammit!

Maybe I should take up skiing, or ice skating ... I might have a better chance of getting around in this weather.

I went out today, which is really saying something, since I haven't left the house since last Friday, due to several snowstorms and hail/sleet/rain/ice weather conditions we've had in the NYC area over the past week.   The areas around my apartment complex do not have sidewalks, which means in bad weather, you have to walk in the streets in order to avoid slipping in mud or walking on ice, so getting around is treacherous.

Today I took a cab with my roommate as we went to our therapy appointments, and we took a cab back to the local shopping plaza, where we did some errands, had pizza for lunch, and she bought her lottery tickets and I bought some Valentine's Day cards for my little great-nieces.  We walked home from the stores, and it was difficult getting around.  I'm just glad we didn't get run over!

The tee-shirt, vest, jeans and hiking boots combo was perfect for today.  I wore my Thinsulate fleece parka from LL Bean.  I changed when I got home to a tee-shirt and the LL Bean Perfect Fit Bootcut Pants, which are so comfortable!  And they look good, too, they're not sloppy like sweatpants.

I had one complaint about today, and that was the makeup I wore.  I don't usually wear makeup, and it's a good thing, too, because whatever I was wearing today, whether it was the blush from the Too Faced Glamour to Go Palette, or the Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer, or the Pond's Beauty Balm Cream (NOT the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream shown, although I've had bad experiences with that, too), something wasn't doing me any favors.  I ended up with dark splotches under my eyes when I removed the makeup, and the makeup settled into my fine lines and made my pores look bigger than they usually do.

I don't know whether I should continue the search for makeup that won't irritate my sensitive skin, and will still look good, or whether I should just do what I've been doing, which is using Burt's Bees Daily Facial Moisturizing Cream for Sensitive Skin and La Roche-Posay's Anthelios Sunscreen Lotion SPF 60, and EOS lip balm and leave it at that.  Since I'm no makeup expert, and the only makeup I've ever used that didn't irritate my skin was Chanel's foundation and face powder, and I can no longer afford the higher-end stuff, maybe I'll just forgo makeup at this stage of my life.  I really like it, though!
