I'm my own boss these days, so I thought I would give myself an annual review, and see how I measured up to the goals I set for myself regarding this blog last May.
You can see the blog post from May 2012 here.
I thought I would be doing more reviews of books, and that I would be writing about health, finances, and home organization, but I think I've veered off to do more outfit posts (thanks to Polyvore), and write more about garment care and organization, with the seasonal wardrobe changeovers.
I haven't been doing reviews of books because I haven't been reading much this year. The reason? I now have a TV, and with it, premium cable channels. So I've been watching a lot of shows on Investigation Discovery, network TV, Game of Thrones, On Demand ... you get the picture. Time that I used to spend reading I now spend watching TV, or surfing the Internet.
As far as health goes, I joined Weight Watchers back in November 2012, because my health insurance company offered a free Weight Watchers and gym membership. I didn't use the gym membership, but I joined WW with my friend Christine, and I was going steadily, but I fell off the wagon in May. It was good for some things, like learning new recipes and healthy habits. I'm still in the process of reassessing its relevance to my life, and its effectiveness. I switched insurance companies, so my WW membership should be running out soon. I made an effort to join the gym across the street from me, because my new insurance company has a free gym membership to that gym, but the folks at the gym pretty much dropped the ball. I have to go back there and remind them I'm alive.
As far as my other health issues go, I don't know how the diabetes is going, because I (bad Edie!) don't test my blood sugar regularly, and I haven't gone for a blood test since wintertime. So I don't know how the malnutrition/vitamin deficiencies are going, either. However, my blood pressure has been down significantly, so that's a good thing. Also, thanks to my new insurance company's medical transportation benefit, I've been able to keep all my medical appointments, which is a great thing. I've had my mammogram, which was negative and benign, so YAY!!!! for that. I finally had my follow-up appointment with a pulmonologist, and he sent me for another sleep apnea test, this time with the Continuous Positive Air Pressure (CPAP) mask, and I have to schedule an appointment with him to follow-up. I have to schedule a blood test, too. That wraps it for the health issues.
As far as finances go, I use Out of the Dark online budgeting tool to track my spending every month. I was doing OK for awhile, but the less said about that the better. I'm not sure I'm ready to reveal my financial business allover the Internet.
Home organization requires energy, which has been in short supply around here, so I haven't undertaken any new organization projects. I'm just trying to keep up with the daily paper blizzard of newspapers, magazines, mail and other reading material that comes into the house. The original idea was to purchase two large, wide bookshelves to store my CD's, DVD's, LP's (yes, I have LP's, doesn't everybody over the age of 45?), books and binders for various resources (style articles for the Style File; recipes, tips, techniques and food handling information for the Recipes & Beverages binder; and assorted other binders on different topics). The idea was that my roommate would have a bookshelf to store her stuff, too. So far this hasn't panned out. You know how it is, you plan to buy something, then something else comes along, and you need that more (like paying an unexpected bill, for example). Someday, folks, someday!
So as you can see, the reason I veered off those other topics was because I wasn't really keeping up with them. So it looks like I'll have to re-evaluate what I want to do with this blog. I've picked up some more readers, so if any of you have any insight or advice to offer as to what you'd like me to write about, I'm willing to listen.
